what, if anything has religion done for us?
science on the other hand, has cured disease, put man on the moon, and i could go on all night. but what exactly has religion done,i know fuck all.
lol, people are saying "it gave us music, art ect.." compared to a cure for smallpox? even if religion give us them things they are not important or as important than science.
It gives people a sense of peace, feeling as if they know that they are on this earth for a reason. That’s something that science can’t do.

It has given already-sick people a convenient alibi to kill and abuse those with whom they disagree.

if you put as much effort into religion as you do science you’d probaly get a lot more out of it.

Religion helped science in history also. Religion helps people put a framework on how to live a life that is good. Many of the people that helped put man on the moon were inspired by Religion. You can’t uniquely separate science from religion because many believe they work hand in hand.

There are many artistic things that have come from it. For instance, I view Paradise Lost as one of the best written things in fiction.
Plenty of great and interesting stories come from both Jewish and Christian mythology (to just pick those to … and I don’t mean the bible, talking about things like demonology and such).

monarchs used religion to control the serfs. The serfs thought if they worked hard and had a crappy life, they’d have an amazing afterlife in heaven
@Highway- if you didn’t notice, there is something called empathy and its why everyone doesnt steal from each other cuz they dont want to get their stuff stolen
@Talon D- its called survival of the fittest. If you can;t protect yourself, sux for u
@His Divine Shadow- true, such as Gregor Mendel, but religion has destroyed knowledge as well.

started wars, but im spiritual and need no religion to guide me,just God and me one to one talking like best friends on any subject

given people hope, provided structure for people who needed it. And putting a man on the moon technically didn’t serve a large purpose, except for the significance/hope it provided us with. And religion has done that too
cowsap | Feb 04, 2010
nothing of to much importance. give people false hope. but i see that as a bad thing

It enabled the progression of science. It used to be the strongest guy took whatever he wanted, raped whoever he wanted, and generally did whatever he wanted. But the weaklings that wanted to study the world instead of bully people said: If you stop stealing and raping you will get to eat Sky Cake in heaven forever. Then they began to make scientific discoveries.

Did you know that most of the scientists who made the greatests strides in scientific advancement and scholarship in Man’s history were monks and other religious people?

WHEN HARM TOUCHES MAN, he CALLS to Us (FOR HELP); then WHEN We have (rescued hIm from that HARM and) changed It Into a favour from Us, he says: "ONLY BECAUSE of KNOWLEDGE (that I POSSESS) I obtaIned It." Nay, It Is ONLY a trIal, but most of them know not!

SOME people just don’t know good from bad and their religious beliefs and their fear of god are the only things that keep them in line. Granted religions brings conflict sometimes, it mainly teaches us how to coexist peacefully.
before you think about going to the moon or curing diseases, you first have to worry about your "not so crazy" neighbor who might want to kill you just because you both fancy the same girl

if it wasnt for religion a lot of people wouldnt have been born, including me and you. science does a lot, but religion for some people keep them sane. science and religion go hand in hand, believe it or not. a lot of things in a lot of religion concerning health are actually accurate.
if it werent for religion, even the olde greek religion, people wouldnt have the strive to live, to see something better. it gives them hope. and the bible on one hand is a book of life stories, it shows you what happened to certain people, how they dealt with situation, some relate to today, some dont. no one can diss religion as much as anyone can diss science.

Well maybe not so much in modern times but in ancient times especially with the Greeks and the Romans it gave us a simple way to explain the unexplainable.
In general though, it gives the basis for a peaceful society. I mean , do you honestly think that crime rates would stay the same even if everyone believed that there was no consequence in the afterlife. Without religion, you’d live in a world where killing, stealing, raping, cheating, lying, etc, weren’t technically wrong. They might be unlawful, but why won’t be immoral.
Really, if there was no religion we’d have the self-control of dogs. We’d be living like animals. If you’re chill with that than whatever but I’m not.
On a completely unrelated note, I highly recommend that you look into how science has actually solidified, if not religion, at least the idea of intelligent design (ie there is a god or gods). Just in studying chemistry and biology we can see how complex the world really is, and the real logical fallacy is to believe that all this happened by chance. Just saying.

God brought the United States to it’s feet as an internationally known country
this is no joke about "one nation under God" thing
did you know that your so much loved ‘World’ taken out the fact that the founding fathers prayed for more than 3 hours each meeting and held nation wide days of prayer and fasting and then national days of thanksgiving prayers to God.

It hasn’t done anything. All it has done is seperate all of us from eachother. We all have our differences and religion just adds on to it. It reminds us even more that we aren’t all alike. Due to religion we have people that won’t marry the other race, aren’t accepted for their sexual preference, etc. I personally believe that the day religion doesn’t exist is the day we’ll have world peace. I know we all have our own beliefs etc. but don’t let all of that and religion sepearte us more then we already are. Keep your opinions to yourself and respect others beliefs. It’s that simple.

Religion has caused a great deal of pain turmoil and death. Not much good has come from it. Religion developed society and without that there would be no science. Without religion and spirituality we never would have hope. Without hope we would never have cured any disease or done anything else for our planet or species. It would all be hopeless.
(The Phoenix) Risen In Christ | Feb 04, 2010
hmmmm lets see. if im not mistaken there would not be any scientist to cure diseases if God had not created the earth.
